But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD
never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is
your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21–23
Sometimes I forget that this familiar passage was penned in the midst of great
difficulties and deep struggles. The writer of Lamentations honestly records his
struggles, but records them in the context of trust in God’s steadfast, unfailing love.
Remembering His love and grace puts the difficulties in our lives in perspective.
His love does not change. It is not based on our circumstances, performance, or
strength. I’m so thankful for God’s great faithfulness. He loves me and never gives
up on me.
I looked up synonyms for “steadfast” and “unfailing” and was in awe that these
are just a few of the facets of God’s steadfast, unfailing love. His love is:
abiding determined fail-safe incessant
everlasting steadfast resolute sustained
unbroken dedicated untiring purposeful
boundless committed undying perpetual
ceaseless tireless permanent unshakable
unswerving stable solid faithful
sure unwearied tenacious unfading
dependable devoted relentless settled
constant certain unyielding fixed
never-ending immovable uninterrupted unwavering
unremitting unsinkable unfaltering zealous
continual secure non-stopping lasting
reliable endless persistent
unceasing trustworthy unfailing
unending steady persevering
A recent worship service at Grace reminded me again of the very same truths
about God’s steadfast love as we sang, “Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus! Vast,
unmeasured, boundless, free…”
Lord, when we call to mind the many facets of Your love and grace poured out
to us through Christ, we are filled with hope and with love for You.
