P. 60
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in
me. Galatians 2:20
Who are you?
I am a husband, father, engineer, friend, teacher, mentor, and craftsman. Every
one of these roles has its own responsibilities. Some days I come home from a
productive day at work, spend quality time with my wife, help out around house,
and have fun with my son, and I feel on top of the world! But then there are those
days when I feel the exact opposite, and I feel like a failure in most or all of my
roles. Ups and downs like this are natural, but it’s all too easy for me to equate my
performance with my worth. After all, the world we live in rewards performers
and penalizes shortcomings.
This is not the case with God. When he looks at me, I have one identity: Jesus
Christ. The merits and failures of daily life have no effect on my standing and
status before God. This beautiful gospel truth affords me a constant, infinite self-
worth that enables me to pursue my roles to further His kingdom, rather than for
gaining personal approval. Identity in Christ is an amazing freedom!
Father, thank You for the freedom and security we have through Jesus Christ.
Amen.
