And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ
Jesus. Philippians 4:19
During my time as a Vacation Bible School (VBS) coordinator here at Grace,
I learned to trust God to provide what I couldn’t see and didn’t know how to
find. When I hit a roadblock in the planning process, I’d hit the neighborhood
sidewalk for prayer time with God, earnestly asking Him to meet the need of
the moment.
Not unlike the pattern in the Psalms, I would typically start out overwhelmed and
discouraged, even complaining. The longer I prayed, I noticed my lack of trust
in His provision, which led to confession of my sin. And the longer I prayed, I
remembered that He is God, and He knows how to work things out.
Although it may sound cliché, I learned God does make a way where there seems
to be no way. He knows the solutions to problems that baffle me, and He supplies
needs from storehouses unknown to me. In fact, He knows the answer to the
need before I know I have a need.
For the record, every one of those sidewalk prayers was answered. After
experiencing His faithful provision for VBS, I am emboldened to trust His care in
other areas of my life. I know He can and will bring His treasure trove of resources
to my bankrupt plans and abilities.
Lord, teach us to entrust our needs to You. When we see our own inadequacy,
help us learn that You will supply our needs according to Your glorious riches
in Christ Jesus.
