“God must love you a lot to allow you to go through such a heavy trial,” said a
friend in February of 1982. As Dr. Dunn preached through the book of Job, our
faith was also tested. Unexpectedly, the Lord allowed our cherished 16-month-
old daughter Sarah to go to Heaven. We were devastated! But we knew beyond a
shadow of doubt that God was still in control and that He loved us. We did not
understand why He allowed this to happen, but we trusted the One who did. And
because our souls were anchored to Him, we did not grieve as those who have no
hope. As we trusted the God of all comfort to carry us through this heavy trial,
we were given the peace of God that truly surpasses all understanding.
As newlyweds, we had set out to find a good Bible-believing church. After our
first visit to Grace Presbyterian Church, where we heard Dr. Bruce Dunn preach
the truth, we knew Grace would be our church home. We were young believers
and soaked in every sermon which helped to form a sound and firm foundation
for our faith.
We thank God for the solid foundation that was formed under Dr. Dunn’s
preaching, and we praise Him for continuing the legacy of gospel-rich sermons
every Sunday with Pastor Bryan Chapell!
Lord, help us to trust You fully in all things.
