Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my
hands toward your most holy sanctuary. Psalm 28:2
My youngest son Josh and I had been hiking in the hills above Lake Tahoe for
hours. Mindlessly enjoying the sights and each other, we were slow to realize that
our wisp of a trail had disappeared. Pushing onward, we encountered more and
larger patches of snow which lingered from the early spring thaw. We were lost.
“Lord, show us a way out of here,” we prayed. Which way should we go?
At times, as we walk through life, we find ourselves in places and circumstances
that are difficult, uncomfortable, and out of our control. We can find peace and
direction in our troubles as we humbly seek the Lord of mercy. “God is our refuge
and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
Our hearts were lifted when we encountered tracks in the snow. They were bicycle
tracks. How could anyone ride a bicycle on these high, steep, snow-covered
slopes? God had graciously shown us a way out.
Do you need help? “The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who
hope in His mercy” (Psalm 147:11, NKJV).
Lord, thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. Help us today.
