Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen
you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
As I pull my grandma’s Bible from the shelf, the pages fall open to reveal the
stately words…“Fear not; for I am with thee.” The text is underlined with a shaky
line of ink, signaling to me the treasure these words were to her. Long before her
passing two years ago, my grandma and grandpa once called Grace Presbyterian
home. And now today, I’m thankful to be the third generation of my family to
call Grace “home.”
Just like the words found in Isaiah spoke to my grandma years ago, they were
monumental to the people of Israel hearing them first. And generations later, the
same words read like a grace-filled love letter to us now. The almighty, powerful
God is proclaiming His commitment to us. He is not just reminding us—but
commanding us—not to be afraid, because He is by our side.
The story of the past 150 years at Grace is filled with both highs and lows, but the
main theme has remained unwavering—God’s faithfulness. Those lines of ink
underlining the words in my grandma’s Bible may be shaky, but the promise of
the underlined words is unshakeable. He is with us.
Lord, we praise You for being our faithful, constant help and companion.
Thank You for the freedom from fear we can claim because You are continually
with us.
