As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about
that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. Genesis 50:20
“Why does God allow evil in the world if He is truly loving?” My college
philosophy teacher asked that question in class. I shared with him Genesis 50:20.
Even though he was a college professor and a minister, he had not considered this
Bible verse. Just because we think something is evil, does not mean God meant
evil against us. We need to see the big picture of what God is doing.
If God can use the struggles in Joseph’s life, which really were evil, to bring about
the salvation of the Jewish people, God can use the difficult things in our lives
to bring about the salvation of our family, friends, coworkers, classmates, and
neighbors.
I had many lively discussions in class with that professor. My classmates thanked
me for speaking up in class. My professor asked where I received my biblical
teaching. I told him I attended Grace Presbyterian Church.
Don’t be afraid to share what you have learned from church and Sunday school.
Heavenly Father, never let us forget that You are working all things together
for good, even when we cannot see it. Give us courage to share our testimony
of how You used the evil things, difficult times, stressful situations, and
unbearable struggles to show Your grace, comfort, strength, and purpose so
that others may turn to You and be saved.
