God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ
our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9
In the heart of the Great Depression, a young couple stood hand-in-hand in
front of the pastor of a small church on Madison Avenue in Peoria. This church
had just completed a communion service to ring in the year 1934. It was already
her birthday and soon would be their wedding anniversary too.
Eighty-four years later, five successive generations of our family have made Grace
Presbyterian Church their home. The church family has been there through those
years, praying through the darkest moments of loss, and praising God for all the
opportunities to serve Him.
History gives us a great perspective—because with the benefit of time, it is easier
for us to see the relentless faithfulness of God. He has proved faithful even when
our prayers seemed impossibly large. He was faithful even when there seemed to
be no earthly explanation for our heartache and pain. He was faithful to us even
when we were unfaithful to Him.
This perspective gives us the courage to face our fears and future with great faith.
God has as much control of the future as the past. He has always been faithful,
and He always will be!
O Father, give us the faith to believe that You are faithful to us beyond all of
our failures and circumstances. Help us to believe that we can face the future
without fear because You are with us. Imprint on our hearts the confidence
that You will never leave us nor forsake us and nothing can separate us from
Your love.
