P. 56
But God chose what is foolish…weak…low and despised in the world, even things
that are not…And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom
from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written,
“Let the one who boasts, boast in the LORD.” 1 Corinthians 1:27–31
Back in my late teens and early twenties, as I began sensing that God may be
calling me into Bible translation, I gave Him many arguments, feeling unworthy,
unfit, untrained, unable and unqualified for such a task. There seemed too much
that I am “not”!
He answered every “not” with the passage above, added Romans 4:17, and
reminded me that He called everything into being from nothing (Genesis 1)
and answered the doubts of Moses, Job and many prophets who felt they couldn’t
handle what He was asking them to be and do. Of course, they couldn’t. Neither
could Paul. Why should I think I could? “But God…”
Down through the years, right up to now, over 60 years later, He has proved His
sufficiency over and over again, in innumerable “impossible” situations, and
provided ongoing joy and satisfaction that fills me with awe and wonder. One
of those great joys is the depth of loving care and prayer, vision and concern, for
outreach both local and worldwide in this, my own home congregation.
Thank You, dear Lord, that You are indeed the great I AM, meeting every
need, sufficient for everything You call us to be, to do, and to face, individually
and collectively, and redeeming even problems of our own sinful making.
Hallelujah!
