‘For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they
began to celebrate. Luke 15:24
One Sunday during the sermon, Pastor Bryan said that there are two words
that we will never hear from God. Those two words are: “Go away.” I began
thinking about how many times I may have consciously or even unconsciously
said these two words to God, and the parable of the prodigal son (or should
I say daughter) came to mind. In my 20s, I went through several years where I
turned my back on God, thinking I wanted to go my own way and I would be
just fine. But I wasn’t, and when I turned back in the direction I should be going,
an amazing thing happened! My Father was there with open arms and said,
“Welcome home!” His love, patience, forgiveness, and grace are forever there for
us all, no matter what.
While we may not consciously say “go away” to God, there may be situations or
periods of time when we try to handle things on our own and turn to Him only
when our “handling” doesn’t work. If only we would go to our Father first; He will
always provide what is best for us according to His perfect plan.
Dear Heavenly Father, please help us to always ask for Your guidance before
trying to handle situations on our own! In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
