In your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy. Psalm 68:10
When I was a kid and lived on the south side of Peoria, my mother was ill and
bedridden. On Sunday mornings if we couldn’t get to church, mom would have
us listen to The Grace Worship Hour on the radio.
Years later, in 1971 when I returned from the army, my mother was better and my
parents were attending Grace. My wife and I followed my parents to Grace not
knowing what a blessing was in store for us.
In 1982 I was working at Caterpillar. That October the union called us out on
strike against Caterpillar. The strike lasted seven months. That’s when God
showed me His love, compassion, and grace through the people of Grace
Presbyterian Church.
With a wife and three children ages 5, 6, and 10, the strike pay wasn’t enough.
One of the pastor’s messages was on pride and to not let pride keep you from
accepting help that God sends you. God not only supplied our needs through
financial gifts, meals, groceries, and odd jobs for pay, He gave us a peace that
passes all understanding that only He can give.
Lord, thank You for a church that teaches Your Word, and a church family
who believes what they are taught.
