“Blessed…” Psalm 1
Last fall we visited New Glarus, WI to learn of our heritage. Our great grand-
parents left Glarus, Switzerland in the middle 1800s to journey to the new world!
They left their home and livelihood on a promise to own land in America. It was
a faith journey for them. When they settled, they soon built their little church
building. We visited that building and sat where they would have sat.
I felt so blessed when we were given a copy of our great grandfather’s will, in which
he wrote a prayer of blessing on his children, and their children’s children in the
generations to come. He had written it 15 years before he died. We celebrated that
fact; that we had been prayed for before we were born. I passed that blessing on to
my children and grandchildren this past Christmas.
It causes me to believe that the members of this congregation were prayed for 150
and more years ago. Let us celebrate that idea. May we continue to be blessed, and
stand as a lighthouse of the truth of the gospel in this city.
The first word of Psalm 1, “Blessed,” means that all of God’s blessings are poured
into our lives when we use our lives to complete His will.
Lord, we need Your help to abide in a spirit of unity as we go forth to serve You
in the years ahead. We ask You to bless this congregation and the one that will
be here 50 or 150 years in the future, if the Lord tarries.
