P. 30
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Psalm 127:1
As we reflect on our 35 years of marriage, we recognize and appreciate the
importance of this verse. Having the Lord at the center of our relationship has
provided the foundation we need every day to grow closer as a couple. When
we allow the Lord to “build the house,” we are able to change focus from our
differences as individuals to the unity we share with the Lord through Jesus
Christ. We learn to embrace those differences in order to complement each other
and glorify God through a unified relationship.
Our church home is no different. Sometimes we can be tempted to focus on
our differences, but in Romans 15:5–7, the apostle Paul encourages us to live
in harmony and welcome one another so that we can glorify God together with
one voice. Grace Presbyterian Church’s 150-year legacy of proclaiming the gospel
of Jesus Christ is a testament to an unwavering focus on the Lord. Our former
longtime pastor Dr. Bruce Dunn once said, “A great church must be a united
church knit together in love for Christ and each other.”
We pray that Grace Presbyterian Church maintains this focus of unity and
love for Christ for the next 150 years, or until Jesus returns and takes us to
our eternal home!
