And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his
faith. Genesis 15:6 NLT
Sounds simple. Like a Nike commercial, “Just believe.” Yet when the challenges
of life become overwhelming, like waves of an angry sea that want to crush the
breath out of you, it’s not so easy. That’s where faith comes in. When relationships
are destroyed, finances are in ruin, deepest-held dreams disappointed; will you
believe that God is good? That He creates beauty out of ashes? That all things
really do work together for good for those who love Him?
Abram did. Years of months of barrenness for his wife, crippling old age, dirty,
inconvenient wilderness wandering…Abram believed the Lord. Like a drowning,
gasping man clinging to a life preserver, like a fearful, small child clinging to his
daddy’s hand in a crowd, Abram clung to faith in God. Abram clung to God. We
can follow his example and just believe the Lord when life seems unbearable. We
don’t have to do anything great for His kingdom, nor earn our position as His
child. We just have to believe that God really loves us. Believe that God will never
leave us nor forsake us. That He is our sure Foundation. That in our flesh we will
see God.
Father, God, thank You that You are faithful and good. Help us to believe You
no matter what our circumstances.
