P. 26
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings
be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may
lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it
is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to
come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1–4
What is good and pleases God? Paul tells Timothy our supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgiving please Him. God is merciful and wants all men to
be saved and know the truth about the good news He offers to all. We can be sure
when we pray and plead that our friends, family, and those in public office would
know the truth and accept God’s mercy shown to us all, we are praying exactly
what He wills, and He is pleased by it.
I have seen God work in amazing ways in answering prayer for the salvation of
others. One of my uncles thought attending church was enough for him to win
God’s approval. Many people prayed for him for over 50 years. In his nineties he
had a stroke and was unable to speak. I thought he would never see his need for
Christ’s mercy and sacrifice. Amazingly, he was able to communicate and ask
someone to read the Bible to him, and finally accepted Christ as his Savior.
I have learned there is nothing more pleasing to God than to hear His children
praying for those He wants to save. Let’s continue to pray that our friends, family,
and those in high positions would come to know the truth and love God, who
loves them so much.
Lord, thank You for being “God our Savior.” Thank You for the confidence
that we can be sure such prayers for the salvation of others please You, and
that You want to redeem them.
