But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs
to God and not to us. 2 Corinthians 4:7
We, as God’s children, are not called titanium or steel containers that would
have strength of their own, or beautiful ornate vases that would detract from their
contents. No, we are called jars of clay—ordinary, commonly used jars in Jesus’
day that were fragile, flawed, and easily broken.
We, like clay jars, are ordinary, weak vessels, used for an extraordinary purpose.
God uses us with all of our flaws and weaknesses, our painful pasts and current
struggles, our quirky personalities and peculiar habits. He uses us, not just
despite our weakness, but as part of His plan to make His name known. It is often
our human nature, though, to forget that it is God—not us—who deserves the
recognition and glory. Through the Holy Spirit, our treasure, He shows us our
pride and reminds us of His grace and mercy.
Throughout the years at Grace, we have witnessed the demonstration of God’s
power in countless ways. We have seen the gospel boldly proclaimed and many
        come to Christ.
We have seen relationships mended, hearts softened, slates wiped clean,
testimonies shared, people serving, fears released, confessions made, truths
truly understood, and missionaries sent—all because of God’s power in ordinary,
flawed, and broken jars of clay.
Lord, help us demonstrate Your power and love, and make Your name known
as we daily, moment by moment, seek Your will and trust in You.
