But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be
the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18
My family began attending Grace Presbyterian Church 25 years ago after
moving to Peoria. What we found helpful were the Sunday school classes for
different ages. This enabled us to be accepted and encouraged, as we settled into
our new church home.
My wife and I have attended Growing in Grace Sunday school class the majority
of the time. As I think of the name of the class, Growing in Grace, I can’t help but
think how fitting that name is as we live out our salvation.
The verses leading up to 2 Peter 3:18, speak of how the heavens will pass away
with a roar and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the
earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Peter goes on to say
that according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth
in which righteousness dwells. While we are waiting, we are to be diligent to be
found by Him without spot or blemish and at peace. Lastly, he says, “take care
that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose our own
stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord…”
Heavenly Father, knowing that You will someday bring judgement to the un-
godly, please help remind us that You are the creator, You are patient toward
us, and that because of Your grace, You love us, and You are coming again.
