P. 88
And behold, two men were talking with him (Jesus), Moses and Elijah, who appeared
in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Luke 9:30–31
The original Greek word used in this verse for departure was “exodus.” So
picture it. There was Jesus talking with Moses and Elijah about the exodus He
(Jesus) was about to accomplish.
What happened during the first exodus? The people put their trust in the blood of
a spotless lamb that had been slain, and those who had been slaves were set free.
Did these slaves have to keep the law prior to being set free? No, the law had not
yet been given. Then on what basis were these people set free? It was God’s grace.
So what happened during the second exodus? A spotless lamb was slain. We, who
have put our trust in the blood of this spotless lamb—Jesus—have been set free
from slavery to sin. Did we have to live up to a certain standard before we were
set free? No, we were set free when we trusted in what He has done. Then on what
basis were we set free? It was God’s grace.
Thank You, Lord, that because of Your grace shown to us, we can be part of
Your exodus.
