The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge
in him. Nahum 1:7
We already know the world is broken. The effects of sin are everywhere.
The perfect garden God created was forever changed by the entrance of sin.
We continue in its imperfection, daily battling our selfish desires. It can seem
hopeless and can rob us of our God-given peace.
Ever had a “day of trouble?” These can range from toddler fits, hurried hours,
coffee spills, red lights, and other inconveniences, all the way to shocking tragedy
forever changing your life.
The reality of trouble in our daily life is real. We like to be trite and tell each other
that things will be “okay.” However, there is so much in this life that is definitely
not “okay.” We don’t know what to expect in life…or do we? John 16:33 says,
“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you
will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus wants to show Himself in our lives, broken as they are. He desires to be our
source of hope and strength that helps us stand with Him in the day of trouble.
It shouldn’t surprise us when life gets difficult. Run for refuge to the only one who
is good and let Him be your stronghold. He cares.
Lord, thank You for being our refuge, our ever-present help in times of need.
Thank You that You are good and that Your love endures forever. Thank You,
Lord, that You are greater than our bad days and that You have overcome the
world! Oh, what hope and peace we have in You.
