Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I’m not a good speaker. I’ve never been a good
speaker, and I’m not now, even though you’ve spoken to me. I speak slowly, and I
become tongue-tied easily.” Exodus 4:10 God’s Word Translation
For over 35 years Grace Presbyterian Church has had an Adult Special
Education program: a ministry serving over 40 adults every week. My brother,
others, and I have ministered to these individuals. Many of them feel they are
less able to share the gospel with others. Like Moses, they feel they aren’t the right
person for God to use. Some have trouble speaking clearly, some are intellectually
challenged, and some feel people will make fun of them. Moses feared what
people might think of him, feared that he would say the wrong thing, or feared he
would say something inaccurately.
We, too, can use excuses. We might think we can’t do something, but would God
ask us to do something if He knew we couldn’t? He wouldn’t. Moses knew, and we
also know the Lord will help us to do whatever He needs us to do. When God wants
to do something through us, He will find a way. Just like with our Special Education
adults, God encourages, God prepares, and God uses us to share His promises.
Our blessed Lord, please help us to be open to accepting whatever it is You
have us to do; speaking confidently in sharing Your Word and gospel.
