Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will
            stand. Proverbs 19:21
“This can’t be right,” thought my 21-year-old self. This was not the school I
requested for my student teaching assignment. Anxiously, I picked up the phone
and called the teacher to set up our first meeting. Little did I know, the person
on the other end of the line had not requested a student teacher. He agreed to a
placement only because another person had backed out of accepting any student
            teacher that semester.
Often times God has “other plans” for us, plans that we find disagreeable but
that He arranges to serve a better purpose. I now see how God had other plans
for me. He placed me in a classroom with a teacher who would not only shape
me professionally, but he and his wife would shape me, and my future family,
            spiritually.
After declining years of invitations to join them for a service at Grace, one day I
accepted. From that point on, my family and I have been building relationships
with Christ. We continually work to build a Christ-centered home. Looking
back, I stand in awe at the realization God has plans for me beyond my wildest
expectations, and that I only need to be patient for Him to reveal them to me.

Lord, thank You for overriding the plans that we make, even when we don’t
understand, so that we may live according to Your purpose.
