Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5–6
Although I have always liked these verses, it wasn’t until my college years that
I discovered the joy of fully embracing and obeying them.
While I was growing in my relationship with Christ at a higher rate than ever
before during college, I was also in a major that I wasn’t interested in, which was
draining me of life and joy. I held onto it for the first three semesters because I
wanted a secure future and income, and I was trusting in that major, and eventual
job, to provide them for me. Through a very humbling (yet sanctifying) process,
God loosened my grip on that idol, and graciously reminded me that I had
not been trusting in Him for my future. It was a somewhat scary, yet liberating
experience, to open my hands to God and say, “I want to fully trust You for
my future!”
In His divine providence and working through His Word, other believers, and
the Spirit’s prompting, I changed majors and was later drawn into youth ministry
here at Grace. God is good and so worthy of our trust! I am incredibly thankful
for these verses which ring true of God’s faithfulness, grace, and provision.
Father, let us continually keep our hands open to You, leaning on You alone
for our present and future!
