P. 15
The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more
numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was
because the Lord loved you. Deuteronomy 7:7–8 NIV
As a kid growing up on the south side of Peoria and in a family of limited
means, I felt I would not be a “chosen” person. When I was seven years old, my
folks discovered the South Side Mission and I started attending Sunday school.
We were taught from the Bible every Sunday that God loved us and gave His only
Son to die for our sins. After being convinced by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word
that He loved even me, I asked for His forgiveness and for Him to come into
my heart.
On Sunday evenings, a group from Grace Presbyterian Church often came and
ministered to us. I was so grateful for that ministry then and now. Years later as
a member of Grace, I am still grateful for the ministry that has continued these
150 years.
Help us to remember, Lord, we were chosen not because of who we are or what
we may have accomplished, but because You loved us.
