Unlimited Grace Value – Glorifying Worship
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of
holiness. Psalm 29:2
It is easy to get lost on what corporate worship should be like. Is it about
the music, or what’s happening on the platform, or even the people around
me? Those are part of our corporate worship, but there is also something much
more intimate too. First, worship is about an audience of one: God. Second, my
heart and affection are required. Here are some thoughtful quotes I find helpful
regarding worship.
1. Worship is about an audience of one: God.
“Of all the things Christ wants for us, loving Him and focusing our attention
on Him are the most important.” Charles Stanley
“The climax of God’s happiness is the delight He takes in the echoes of His
excellence in the praises of His people.” John Piper
Dear Lord, I pray that You are the focus of my worship; that my interest is in
praising You and not the world around me.
2. My heart and affection are required.
“Without the heart it’s not worship, it’s a stage play.” Stephen Charnock
“When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be
without heart.” Lamar Boschman
“Worship is no longer worship when it reflects the culture around us more than
the Christ within us.” A.W. Tozer
God help me be affectionate in my worship, praising You with my deepest love.
Lord, help our church glorify You. Let our corporate worship lead us to focus
our thoughts on You alone. Teach us to worship with our whole heart and
display our affection to You.
