P. 7
Confession of our need of Christ is not a one-time commitment. Every day we
declare the reality and necessity of Christ’s grace when we pray to Him for daily
needs, spiritual strengthening, pardoning mercy, and biblical wisdom to bring
Him glory in homes, work, recreations, relationships, and afflictions.
Since “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1), we recognize
there is no corner of our lives where we should not honor Him, or do not need
Him. So in gratitude for God’s enduring and expansive grace, “in everything by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving [we] let requests be made known to
God” (Philippians 4:6).
This book is a compilation of such prayers from God’s people, who delight to
share how God has provided His grace to them through the ministry of Grace
Presbyterian Church. The goal is not to glorify their prayers or to extol the
reputation of the church. Rather, these devotions are a reminder that “thus far
the Lord has helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12), so that such affirmations of His grace
will encourage all of our hearts to seek Him in prayer with daily eagerness and
renewed devotion.
God’s grace is not only the basis of our faith in what He has done, nor merely the
reason for our freedom from penalty for wrongs we have done, but it is the fuel
for all God calls us to do. As love for Him, in response to His grace toward us,
supersedes all other desires, “the love of Christ controls us” (2 Corinthians 5:14),
and seeking His guidance and care in prayer becomes the delight and strength of
our lives. May God enable everyone who reads these words to experience such
delight and receive such strength, as they offer fresh prayers to Him in the light
of His glory and grace.
