Unlimited Grace Value – Gospel Dependence
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit
your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. Psalm 37:4–5
It is countercultural to live a gospel-dependent life, one that seeks to live
for Christ in every moment and sphere of life, submitting to the authority of
God’s Word in the decisions of life, and praying without ceasing. Most people
have an “I’ll do it myself” and “I want it now” mentality. Relinquishing control
and waiting are unusual concepts in today’s society.
We learned the meaning of gospel dependence early in our marriage. My wife’s
“heart desire” was a baby grand piano. We began looking for used ones, finding
one in the town in which she taught. It was perfect, but too expensive for our
small budget. We continued to pray and search, but began to give up on finding
one. Months later a lady at my wife’s school asked if she was still interested in
the very piano we looked at months earlier. She said the party who owned it was
remodeling and just wanted it hauled away. That piano has remained in the center
of our home nearly 45 years as a constant reminder of God’s provision and care for
those who are willing to live for, depend on, and pray to Him for their every need.
Lord, help us to depend more upon You and less upon ourselves.
