All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete,
equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16–17
God has given us His Word as our map of life. In today’s language we could say
the Bible is God’s GPS. God knows our best path for living righteously as it says
in Psalm 119:105. And in the beloved Psalm 23 we learn of our loving Shepherd
leading us “in the paths of righteousness.”
Jesus also tells us in John 17:17 that God’s Word is Truth. We not only have a GPS
for life, but it is true and reliable. We can trust it if we make a habit of reading
His Word.
But as the words of the hymn “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” remind
us, we are prone to wander. We like our own path, and we can find all kinds
of reasons not to read the Bible. However, the grace of God extends beyond
salvation, and also trains us “to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and
to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:11–12).
Grace Presbyterian Church has always placed a high value on God’s Word.
During our time attending Grace, we have been taught not only the importance
of reading and learning God’s Word, but also trusting and relying upon it in all
aspects of life.
Lord, help us continually develop the habit of relying on Your Word. Help us
not to wander, but instead read, study, and trust the Bible as the map You have
given us.
