Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of
Jesus…let us draw near. Hebrews 10:19, 22
I remember the first time I saw my future wife, Cecilia. I was cashing a check
on the Air Force base when I looked over my shoulder and saw a pretty young
lady sitting on a couch. I wanted to go over and introduce myself, but I was too
shy to do so. After I left, I thought I would never see her again.
To my surprise, a friend called me several days later to tell me about this cute new
lieutenant in his squadron. He asked me if I wanted to meet her. I said that I did;
my friend arranged a lunch date for us, and the rest was history.
Though I didn’t have the confidence to approach Cecilia on my own, my friend
gave me access to her. Even more so, though we hesitate to draw near to God,
Christ—our advocate—gives us access to Him. And we have better access to God
than to our closest friend or relative. While I’m able to talk to Cecilia multiple
times a day, I’m able to talk to God every minute of the day! Christ gives us access
to God so that we can draw near to Him.
Father, thank You that Jesus has given us access to You by His blood, and
please enable us to confidently draw near to You.
