I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
My name is “Mr. Ralph,” and I have the best position at Grace. I get to hear
first and second grade Sunday school children recite the Scripture verses they
memorize in the Well-Versed Kids program. I regret that as a child I wasn’t as
wise as these kids, who store God’s Word in their hearts at so young an age. Once,
a student was reciting John 14:1–6 and stumbled. I handed him the verse card,
told him to read it, and said we’d try again after he reviewed it. He looked up at
me and said, “Mr. Ralph, I can’t read yet!” Wow!
Last year the doctors found I had a large cancerous tumor. I was told I probably
had less than a year to live. I kept my Well-Versed Kids packet of verses and the
children’s pictures on the hospital tray for encouragement. Thanks to excellent
medical care and the prayers of many—including my Sunday school students—I
survived. I feel good after surgery, and my doctor tells me that chemotherapy is
doing its job.
My wife, “Miss Sandy,” plays the piano for the first and second grade class and
for the three-year-old class. She thinks she has the best job at Grace. I just let her
think so.
Lord, we pray for the Scripture memory of our students, and that the adults
will follow their good example. Thank You for encouragement that comes
from fellow believers.
