Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 NIV
I have a dear friend who moved far away. To keep in touch, we developed a
habit I call texting truth.
Weeks could go by without hearing from each other, but suddenly I got a text
from her, “Please pray for me today. Had a rough morning with my five year
old. Need wisdom.” I texted back, “Do not grow weary of doing good, for in due
season we will reap, if we do not give up” (see Galatians 6:9).
A few days later I texted her, “Pray for me! I feel like a failure as a mom and a wife.”
She replied, “Those are lies. You need to listen to the voice of Truth.”
In 2010, my son, who was then just two years old, had major kidney surgery
that lasted six hours. During the long, terrible wait I texted my friend. “I’m so
scared. They should be done by now. My mind is going to dark places. I feel sick.”
My friend replied, “He is in God’s hands. God is in that room. He is guiding the
surgeon. God knows the very hairs on his head. This is Truth.”
I love how God uses the family of Christ to shine His Truth in darkness.
Lord, help us be a church family who encourages, prays, and speaks—or
texts—truth to each other.
