For from his fullness we have all received grace upon grace. For the law was given
through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:16–17
        What exactly is grace? The adage, “mercy is not getting what we deserve;
grace is getting what we don’t deserve,” gives a general idea. Through our years
at Grace Presbyterian, we have gradually come to recognize God’s grace in our
lives. The preaching, Bible lessons, conferences, worship, classes, etc. have been
        a gift to us.
But as wonderful as these activities have been, perhaps the most profound
teachings have come from brushing elbows over the years with people who
exemplify living out God’s grace. However, we realize that grasping the depth of
God’s grace is a lifelong lesson that we may never understand completely while
        on earth.
The lesson of grace begins with a realization of how truly self-focused and
unworthy we are. It requires us to understand that there is absolutely nothing we,
in our humanness, can do to make this situation right—no matter how hard we
try or how “good” we are. The best part of this lesson, however, is when we finally
understand that because of God’s grace, our depravity is taken care of! He gave
His only Son so that we are able to receive what we don’t deserve…God’s love and
        acceptance…His grace!
Father, we thank You for the fact that Jesus Christ has been proclaimed
and Your grace has been taught throughout the 150-year history of Grace
Presbyterian Church. And we pray for Your continued blessings on this
church and body of believers so that You alone, oh Lord, will be glorified.
