As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts
for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1–2
It is a pilgrimage that has spanned almost 50 years. It started way back when
I needed something special in my life to happen. Little did I know that the
searching was not of my own accord. I needed to know there was a real, living
God. And if so, I needed to know Him. But how and when was this introduction
to take place? How does one get introduced to the real and living God?
The simile here is of a deer whose thirst may only be quenched by cool, flowing
stream waters. How does an individual whose soul pants for the living God
become satisfied? “I was thirsty and you gave me drink.” That is how someone is
introduced to the living God. God saw to it that someone gave me a drink and
introduced me to the Word of God. That pilgrimage along the narrow road is
guided by God’s Word, and the more His Word is ingrained in my heart, the more
I know Him. To love Him, is to know Him. God’s grace has always provided me
living water for the thirsty soul!
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for allowing us to know You through Your
ultimate gift of love, Your Son Jesus Christ. Grace and salvation we truly do
not deserve. Help us each day as we study Your Word and live accordingly, as
we work out our sanctification by being a “living sacrifice, holy and acceptable
to You which is our spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1).
