Immediately, the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
Mark 9:24
It was Good Friday, yet there didn’t seem to be anything good about it. I was
sitting in Emily’s hospital room, watching my 18-year-old battle cancer. Tests
showed her white cell counts were zero, and her immune system was suppressed.
There are times when you know God will see you through anything, and other
times that test your faith. We’d seen His constant faithfulness, daily, after the
Washington tornado completely destroyed our home. But after 16 months of
recovery and rebuilding, we faced another ‘storm’, and we were overwhelmed and
completely spent, physically and emotionally. Was God always faithful? Even in
the muck that leaves you numb and hopeless?
Our small group prayed, while I cried out to God. Where are You? Why did this
happen? Will You rescue us, again? God answered with an indescribable peace
and a very tangible presence of the Holy Spirit in that entire room. He reminded
me of His words: “I am with you,” “I will hold you with my right hand.”
We didn’t know what lay ahead, but we did know that God would carry us through
every hour, every treatment, every fear. Good outcome or bad, He promised to
remain our rock. Emily is now in remission, and we give God all the glory. We’ve
learned He is always faithful, especially in the muck.
Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness to us every moment, and help us to
know this truth, even when we doubt at times.
