Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of
the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15–16
A sea of innocent faces looked up at me as the simple message of Christ’s love
was told. “Is this a true story?” one child blurted out. “Yes, every word is true,” I
gently answered. With heads bowed and hands folded, children accepted God’s
amazing gift, angels rejoiced, eternity granted, and grace extended to young
hearts. Light shining in the darkness, our church has seized the opportunity to
share Christ in the public schools through Good News Club.
The King James translates this verse in Ephesians using the phrase “redeeming
the time.” Does redeeming the time mean that we are to guard our moments as
the swing of a pendulum ticks into eternity? Do we examine an isolated raindrop
or the entire rainfall? Or possibly, does Jesus call believers to lay hold of what is
essential in life; to live with a purpose and fulfill God’s eternal purposes? We are
to be molded into God’s image as we bear the name of His Son. Every day, in the
middle of the mundane, we are to see beyond the temporal. We are called to fix
our eyes on Jesus.
The sand is quickly pouring through the hourglass. We are to walk intentionally,
embrace His grace, and focus on the author and perfecter of our faith.
Jesus, You are full of grace and mercy. Let us live intentionally for Your kingdom.
