The church partnered with Campus Outreach to see college students won to
Christ, expanded its women’s and men’s ministries, established English as a Second
Language classes, introduced a life-on-life discipleship program, continued its
Vacation Bible School, and many other efforts to reach the community with the
gospel.
In 2013, Pastor Johnston left to lead his late brother’s church in Perth, Australia.
Grace then called Dr. Bryan Chapell, former president of Covenant Seminary, to
be its new senior pastor.
This look at the Grace Presbyterian Church’s past shows us how the Lord has
helped us over the years. It is a great encouragement as we press forward with the
same gospel message preached here since 1862: “that Christ died for our sins in
accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, [and] that he was raised on
the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).
Not by our own ingenuity has Grace grown over these past 150 years. It is a
blessing from God, who is pleased to use imperfect vessels to do His work in the
world. We will continue to pray for God’s guidance and blessing as we strive to
be a church with God’s unlimited grace inspiring all generations and peoples to
follow Christ in glorifying worship, gospel dependence, gracious humility, and
global discipleship, so that we may join in the song of Revelation 5, impacting
Peoria and the world.
